Hi, I'm [egg], and I am your energy-saving egg-spert! I am here to show you how you can make the most of your energy consumption, and save on your bill!
It will be fun, I promise.
In the average home, 75% of the electricity used to power electronics is actually used while the products are turned off (on standby). Each TV or computer left on standby is estimated to cost you 2p per hour!
*That means that about £14.5 of your monthly electric bill goes toward a TV or computer that’s turned off, but plugged in.
We are using data from the Energy Saving Trust to calculate this number.
If you were to boil your electric kettle once a day, every day for a year, you would spend around £30.74!
With that in mind, to boil 1 cup of tea, an electric kettle takes 37.5% less energy than a gas hob! With more than half of the UK drinking more than 4 cups of tea a day, that’s still a cost of about £123 per year - just for boiling water.
We have used data from Nimble Fins UK to crack this number!
Did you know that at least 10 people will be late for work this week because they forgot to charge their cars?
But in all seriousness, 1 in 4 (or 26%) EV drivers worry that they won’t be able to charge their cars along a journey. The kicker? 42% of people concerned don’t even drive an EV yet, they’re just thinking about it!
We have used EVBox Mobility Monitor 2022 for this statistic.
If you're all about going green, you'll love this one. Ironically, electric heating is better for the environment compared to gas! It's also cheaper to install, with zero maintenance costs. It lasts up to 50% longer than the average gas boiler too!
We have used data from Rointe UK to get these numbers!
How much energy does the average LED lightbulb consume per hour?
We’ve calculated these numbers based on data from Energy Bot and Energy Guide UK.
Picture a watt as a speedy worker, telling us how fast something guzzles electricity. It's like an electric speedometer, the more watts, the faster it gulps the power.
Now, a kWh is like a big jar, tracking all the watts you've used over time. It measures how much electricity you've used in total. For example, leaving a 100-watt light bulb on for 10 hours would use 1 kWh.
100 watts x 10 hours = 1,000 watt-hours = 1 kWh
In simple terms, watts show us speed, while kWh measures the total distance traveled in electricity use. It's like comparing the speed of a car (watts) to how far it has gone (kWh).
Double glazing can reduce carbon dioxide emissions by up to 680kg per year? That’s roughly the weight of a cow.
Now, the average tree absorbs 10kg of carbon dioxide annually, which means switching to double-glazed windows is equivalent to planting 68 trees, without touching a shovel.
We’ve used data from One Tree Planted and Dunstable Glass to crack these numbers.
The ROI of solar panels can have property value too! A solar panel installation could increase your home's resale value by up to £4,700 per Kw of each installed panel. That could be up to 4.1% of your home's value!
We have used data from Ecowatch to crack these numbers.
It’s big enough to host a rooftop party.
It’s pretty average, but it has potential.
It’s cosy.
These are the top 3 reasons why people install solar panels
1. Financial benefit: Solar power drastically cuts electricity costs, providing immediate and long-term savings. Capturing sunlight is virtually free!
2. Carbon offset: Each kilowatt-hour (kWh) generated by solar panels offsets approximately 187g of carbon dioxide. A 4kW system can save over a ton of carbon dioxide in a year, which is equivalent to planting a whopping 136 trees.*
3. Increased home value: Solar PV is a sought-after home upgrade, similar to a renovated kitchen or a new patio, according to a WWF and ScottishPower study, with the potential of increasing the value of your home by up to £10,00. *
We’ve used data from a WWF & Scottish Power Study, Carbon Brief, and UK Greenhouse Gas reporting studies to reach these numbers.
Did you know that the average UK household will use 2,900 kWh of electricity and 12,000 kWh of gas in a year? That’s of course for the average 2-3 bedroom home. That equals a spend of about £1,156.31 on electricity alone! *
We’re not making comparisons, but keep scrolling to find out how you compare!
We have applied data and insights from a British Gas Energy Guide to get to these numbers.
The world of renewable energy is experiencing an electrifying surge! In 2023, global renewable capacity additions are set to skyrocket by a whopping 107 BILLION watts. That’s the same power that 35,666,667 kettles can produce!
We have used data from Homebuilding & Renovating UK to reach these numbers.
Show me the savings! I'm all about maximising my financial benefits and counting those sunny coins.
I’m a balanced budgeter: I appreciate a good bargain, but I also value a balanced approach when it comes to my investments.
I’m neither here nor there. I'm more focused on the environmental impact and long-term value than immediate cost savings.
Solar panels don't need direct sunlight to charge! While it's true that solar panels may not be at their sun-kissed best on a cloudy day, they're still shining bright with efficiency.
In fact, even when the clouds roll in, solar panels maintain an impressive 60% of their power-generating prowess. So, don't let a few clouds rain on your solar parade!*

Yes, it’s hard to miss.
Somewhat, it caught my attention.
Nope.
Here's an interesting one! The UK's net-zero target is one of the most ambitious global goals! The commitment is to ensure the UK reduces its greenhouse gas emissions by 100% from 1990 levels by 2050. If met, this would mean the amount of greenhouse gas emissions produced by the UK would be equal to or less than the emissions removed by the UK from the environment. This will be done without compromising supply, or quality of life for all residents.
We have used data from The Economist for this statistic.
Speaking of compromising supply... South Africa has unintentionally found itself ahead of its net-zero target! Regular breakdowns of its coal-fired power plants that supply more than 80% of South Africa’s electricity mean that less carbon dioxide is being pumped into the atmosphere. Add that to the daily rotational power cuts of more than 10 hours a day further limits factory emissions. I suppose that’s one way to do it!

By going solar and following our guidance, you'll save an impressive 0 kWh every year. That's enough energy to make 0 cups of tea, while keeping more pounds in your pocket!
With a few tweaks to your consumption and the addition of solar power to your property, you could stash an extra 0 monthly, That’s a massive 0 every year. Plus, if you sold the surplus back to the national grid, you’d be pocketing an extra 0 annually too.
Based on our calculations, your carbon footprint sits at 0 kg per year. This is based on your energy consumption alone. Switching to a sustainable energy solution, like solar would drastically reduce your carbon footprint! By 0% to be egg-sact! That’s the same as planting 0 trees every year.
Our results have been calculated based on data from multiple sources, including:
