Feature 1: 3 Easy Christmas campaign ideas for independent schools

šŸŽ„The Christmas Switch Off
Across the UK, many universities and schools, including Sheffield and UCL, are joining the popular Christmas Switch Off campaign (as they do every year). But sustainability doesn’t have to stop at switching appliances off. Some schools appoint students as ā€œenergy elvesā€ to remind everyone of simple ways to save energy, or host second-hand gift wrap swaps. All small, fun ways to make a big difference. For ideas, check out Sustainable School Christmas Tips.

šŸ§‘šŸŽ“School of ChristmasTake inspiration from Lidl’s School of Christmas ad and create funny videos featuring students and staff ā€œlearningā€ to survive typical Christmas challenges at school, like students untangling Christmas lights or teachers humorously attempting to wrap presents under a time limit with funny fails like tangled tape, slipping bows, or misshapen boxes.Ā

šŸ“ Acts of Kindness Advent
Use this advent calendar template or similar to create a 12-day countdown focused on different acts of kindness, such as writing thank-you notes, helping a classmate, or making festive cards for local care homes. Share these moments on socials with short captions highlighting the spirit of giving in your school community.

We didn’t forget about you, HE marketers…

If you’re a university, chances are your Christmas and holiday campaigns are set to go. But here are some key areas frequently overlooked that could boost your impact:

šŸŽ‰ Story series on Christmas traditions around campus (easiest to miss|)

šŸŒ Highlighting diversity, how different cultures celebrate the season

šŸŽ Free pop-ups and discounts offered to students on or off-campus

šŸ“ø Capture decorations and nostalgic moments on campus

šŸ‘©ā€šŸ« Chancellor’s/Professor Instagram takeover, a warm, unusual & memorable greeting

And don’t forget to include stories from your amazing international students with…

šŸŽ¬ A blog series or short films on ā€˜Last Christmas at Home’ to tell the story of an international student’s last holiday at home before joining you in JanuaryĀ

šŸŽ’ 12 Days of Packing to turn January intake anticipation into a social story arc

Whether you’re switching off to save energy or sharing your unique traditions, the key is to connect authentically with your community.Ā

Here’s to a joyful, impactful holiday marketing season from all of us at Pink Orange!
